TSCI Training Policies
Generic Industrial Safety Orientation is offered in two forms: "Basic Orientation Plus" and "Basic Orientation Plus Refresher". Basic Orientation Plus is conducted for persons who have never successfully completed the orientation, or whose badges verifying successful completion have expired. Refresher is available to persons who possess badges which verify successful completion of Basic Orientation Plus or Basic Orientation Plus Refresher, provided that expiration dates have not occurred, or so long as expirations occurred within sixty (60) days.

Basic Orientation Plus (BOP) is a half-day program (approximately five hours). The actual class schedule can be obtained by contacting the training center. High quality instructors guide through video based, interactive instructional units. Professionally produced video modules outline units which are carefully reviewed using computer based slides. All students test in our multimedia lab. The test is a Fifty (50) question comprehensive written test. The questions cover all material presented but do not appear in the sequential order of the material. Tests are graded and reviewed. A minimum score of seventy (70) is required.

Basic Orientation Plus Refresher (BOPR) is a two hour Basic Orientation Plus refresher that is taken in our multimedia lab. The training is video based, interactive instructional units. All students are given a Fifty (50) question comprehensive written test. The questions cover all material presented but do not appear in the sequential order of the material. Tests are graded and reviewed. A minimum score of 70% is required.

TSCI works with ARSC in constantly reviewing and refining the Basic Orientation which is the primary focus of the training center. TSCI offers courses such as: HAZWOPER, OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 (use of OSHA manuals), Competent person, Confined Space, CPR/First Aid/AED, and Blood borne pathogens.

All trainees must be pre-registered. We encourage Online Registration. Please contact us for other ways to register your employees.

Each person who successfully completes a safety orientation at TSCI receives a tamper-proof identification badge, valid for one year from date of issue. If other specialized training is completed during that year, the same badge will be so coded, with the expiration date added for the new program. All member plants of TSCI and ARSC member organizations recognize our badge. Trainee records, including tests and evaluation surveys, are kept on file at TSCI for 5 years.

If the requested orientation date is at least one week into the future the fax registration form may be mailed. If some names of trainees are indefinite at the time of registration a reasonable number of un designated spots may be reserved but must be faxed at least twenty-four (24) hours prior to orientation date. There will be a $25 "No-Show" fee if not cancelled before 3:00pm the prior business day.

Special Assistance

Non-readers:
TSCI accepts registrations for persons who are unable to read or who have reading comprehension difficulty - specifically, people who must have tests read to them. At no extra charge, we can have one of our classroom assistants provide the service. The trainee may request this help, but only after hearing a clear announcement by the instructor that a passing grade achieved with reading assistance results in the awarding of an ID badge which identifies the worker as a non-reader. The trainee must also understand that contractors often deny employment to non-readers because many plants do not accept them. This training is not accepted by other ARSC members.

Non-English:
TSCI provides training in Spanish. The badge earned by a trainee who receives interpreter service is labeled "Non-English". Such registrants are informed that some plants do not allow workers in their plants who cannot read English. This training is not accepted by other ARSC members.

Hearing Impaired:
TSCI will accept registration of a hearing impaired person, provided the enrollee can personally arrange for an interpreter at his/her own expense. The interpreter must first undergo "Initial Orientation" and achieve a passing grade. He/she will then be allowed to accomplish the interpreting - but may not assist while the trainee is taking the written test.

Failed Evaluations:
It is the policy of the TSCI that people who fail a course evaluation (any subject/course) must re-take the training program and evaluation. After seven calendar days the person may re-take the training program, but the company/person will be assessed the appropriate course fee. If the person fails the evaluation a second time, the person would not be allowed to take that the class or evaluation for thirty (30) days. If the person fails the evaluation a third time, the person would not be allowed to take the test for 90 days.
